Environmental Issues

As well as being an important historical feature of any house, wooden windows are incredibly environmentally friendly – especially as we aim to source all of our timber from sustainable sources.

UPVc windows are chlorine based, a chemical proven to be toxic to the environment and key to the spread of dioxins around our planet. Dioxins are released during their manufacture, and again when they are disposed of; and either incinerated or placed in a landfill site. Their disposal is inevitable, as UPVc has a life span of around 20 to 30 years before it starts to yellow and eventually degrade.

Further information on the environmental effects of UPVc can be found in Framing the View: Window Frames for a Sustainable Future by Lydia Wilson.

Further information on sustainable wood supplies can be obtained from the FSC.
