Sash Window Options

The earliest example of a sash window can be traced back to the 1690s when they were used at Hampton Court Palace.

Wooden windows, all be it double glazed, are now being fitted in to modern developments to add charm and character to new-build houses.

Security

Security plays an important part when choosing what to do with your windows. It is a common misconception that plastic windows are safer than their wooden alternatives, when in actual fact UPVc windows can be distorted with a standard blow torch and some early models can be physically prised from their frames.

With the correct catches and other safety devices installed, there is no reason why wooden sash windows, Yorkshire sliders and casement windows cannot be just as safe as the plastic alternatives available.

Glass

It is not unusual to find that Victorian and Georgian panes of glass are cracked, and during the survey our craftsman will be able to advise whether it needs replacing or not. If glass does need replacing there are a number of alternatives including modern clear glass, float glass (stock permitting) to retain the original wavy appearance, toughened glass or even laminated glass.

Catches

Original catches can enhance your period windows, however there are times when catches have been broken; or do not provide sufficient safety for the modern home. In this case we can offer a range of replacement catches from simple sliding catches to locking catches – all in a variety of finishes.

Restrictors

Restrictors do exactly what they say – they restrict the opening of your windows. These fastenings are easily removable and are supplied with a key for you to do so.

They are ideal for use on ground floor windows to stop intruders gaining entry, and on upper floors to to stop children from falling out.

Easy Clean System

The easy clean system makes it possible to remove the bottom sash, and swing it inside the house in order to clean the outside of the glass. This can be physically demanding and great care should be taken whilst doing it.
